Lalande de Pomerol lies just north of the more prestigious Pomerol title where quality and prices head skywards. Lalande de Pomerol and Pomerol is divided by a small stream called the Barbanne, and it is this that creates the difference where soils differ on each side.
Lalande more sandier and Pomerol more gravel like. It’s the sandier consistency which produces the lighter style reds to Pomerol itself, however through huge investments these wines are now improving dramatically and there are bargains to be had without the high price tags.
There are two villages, Néac and Lalande itself. Néac produces the better wines and Chateau Bechereau has vineyards in Néac on excellent clay soils.
